Colombian Air Force takes delivery of first two T-6C Texan II trainer aircraft.

On 11 July, the Colombian Air Force (Fuerza Aerea Colombiana - FAC) announced the entry into service of the first two T-6C Texan II trainer aircraft. According to the FAC, the new aircraft will help strengthen and develop the capabilities of military pilots thanks to their modern technologies.

The FAC says the T-6C TEXAN II is regarded as the safest and most rigorously tested military trainer aircraft with high acceptance and reliability. It is a low-wing aircraft with aerodynamic characteristics that give it high maneuverability at low altitudes and high speeds.

The arrival of these aircraft marks a generational change in the FAC fleet, they will replace the 13 T-37B "TWEET" trainer jets after over 50 years of activity at the FAC training school.

"The country needs a modern Air Force for its defense, it needs well trained and qualified pilots to have in their hands the best system for the defense of national sovereignty. Today we give these young Colombian pilots the best aircraft in order to train those who will be the pilots who will integrate and develop the Air Force of the future, ”said General Ramsés Rueda Rueda, FAC Commander.

''With the delivery of these aircraft we will train a new generation of combat pilots and thus strengthen the capabilities of our Air Force to be able to exercise more sovereignty. Furthermore, thanks to new technology and innovation, we will be able to be part of a multinational task force such as the one developed in NATO,'' Defense Minister Diego Molano Aponte said.

Colombia awarded Textron Aviation the contract for the supply of 8 Texan II trainers in October 2020, with an option for an additional 8 aircraft.
