While all airshows in Italy continue to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Italian Air Force is preparing to send its demo teams across the border.
As confirmed in the past few hours by the organizers of the International Sanicole Airshow, "The Italian airforce is at the absolute peak of European air displays and they will defend their champion quality with great gusto at Sanicole in September [10, 11 and 12]."
The International Sanicole Air Show is well known to all aviation enthusiasts for being one of the leading aviation events in Europe. It takes place every two years at Sanicole airfield, Hechtel, Belgium.
Sanicole will welcome three types of Italian Air Force aircraft for the first time in 2021, shown to the Belgian audience by the demo pilots of the Reparto Sprimentale Volo (RSV). "This will also be an outstanding showcase of Italian aviation design and engineering," the organizers said. All three types are manufactured by the Italian aerospace company Leonardo.
Describing the first participant, they say "it is perhaps the most advanced jet trainer In the world, the Leonardo T346 Master. This twin-engined marvel of technology boasts exceptional flying characteristics in addition to a host of complex avionics in its glass cockpit, allowing it to simulate a host of the newest combat aircraft to prepare trainee-pilots for their careers in frontline units. The T346 is a popular training aircraft in a number of countries including Italy, Greece, Poland and Israel, thanks to its amazing capabilities and advanced training aids. It can also be armed with a variety of munitions and used for ground-attack."

As for the second participant, the Eurofighter Typhoon, they say that it is "the result of a successful international programme between Italy, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom to develop a state-of-the-art multirole combat aircraft able to face any challenge in the air and on the ground using the most modern avionics to link to the digital combat environment. With its powerful EJ200 turbofans and sophisticated fly-by-wire system, the aircraft is capable of putting on an impressive show of force during its solo display, which sees the aircraft exploit an incredible range of its performance envelope at both high and low speeds."
The third and final display of the RSV is defined by the organizers as "the most amazing display of a transport aircraft anywhere in the world. The Italian-designed and built Leonardo C-27 Spartan is a successful tactical transport aircraft, which shares many of its components and avionics with the latest C-130 variants. Its 2 powerful turboprops also enable to stun the audience with some unforgettable aerobatic manoeuvers unheard of for an aircraft of this size. It is also an excellent demonstration of what made the Spartan such a popular transport aircraft on the export market with 15 countries on 6 continents, including the United States!"
