Flight crews of the Italian Army 5th Rigel Regiment have recently completed their training aboard the Italian Navy's Garibaldi aircraft carrier. AH-129D Mangusta attack helicopters were involved in the Mare Aperto 2021 maritime exercise to allow the Italian Army pilots to obtain the qualification to land on the decks of Italian military ships (BRAVO standard). The BRAVO qualification allows pilots to operate from ships day and night, in all weather conditions, even with the help of Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

The Garibaldi ship was for about a month the home of the helicopters belonging to the Task Group TOMAHAWK/49th Capricorn Squadron and the flight crews of the 5th Rigel Regiment. This activity offered a great training opportunity for the pilots, but also for the Garibaldi crew. It enabled flight deck specialists to learn how to handle a different type of helicopter.
