Following recent media reports about Ukraine's interest in the Super Tucano as a replacement for Russian front-line combat aircraft, the Ukrainian Air Force has officially clarified the matter through a post on its Facebook page.

"The network is disclosing information about the Ukrainian Air Force's plan to purchase Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano turboprop light attack aircraft to replace MiG-29, Su-27, Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-24MP aircraft in the period 2021-2035. This information is not correct!," Air Force said.

According to the post, the Super Tucano was evaluated during the business trip of the Ukrainian Air Force delegation to Brazil in 2019 as a trainer/light fighter aircraft to replace the current "flying school desk" [L-39 Albatros].

The service also confirmed that they are considering a replacement for the Su-27, Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-24MR combat planes, but it will be a foreign 4++ gen multi-role aircraft and not the Super Tucano.

"Each military aircraft is developed to cover different roles as well as different uses and this type of aircraft [Super Tucano] does not have the proper characteristics to replace a front-line fighter jet and its purchase for this task would be useless," Air Force said.
