On August 27, a Bomber Task Force deployment of three B-2 Spirit stealth bomber aircraft, Airmen and support equipment from the 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, arrived in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility for a deployment to conduct theater integration and flying training.
The aircraft landed at RAF Fairford AFB, UK, between 00.38 AM and 1.22 AM LT, with callsigns DEATH11, DEATH12 and DEATH13 and are serialled 89-0129, 82-1068 and 82-1071.
It is not clear how long the B-2s will remain in Europe, but according to USAFE, they will operate exclusively from RAF Fairford.
The deployment of strategic bombers to the UK is intended to exercise RAF Fairford as U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s forward operating location for bombers and improve bomber interoperability with European allies.
