The Royal Navy International Air Day's world-leading combat aircraft line-up now includes a show first: two US Navy Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornets!! The pair – one arriving in the hands of a Royal Navy exchange officer - are part of VFA-113 (Strike Fighter Squadron 113), named the ‘Stingers’.

Based at NAS Lemoore in California, VFA-113’s Super Hornets deploy aboard the US Navy’s vast USS Theodore Roosevelt Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. The Squadron’s battle honours include Operations Desert Shield, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and - more recently - Inherent Resolve.

Introduced in 2001, the phenomenal Super Hornet’s roles include precision strike, air superiority, close air support, fighter escort, reconnaissance, enemy air defence suppression and forward air control. Air Day’s examples join an impressive naval airpower assembly that also includes Spanish Navy Harriers, a German Navy Orion and the brand-new F-35B Lightning!
