ITALIAN AIR FORCE HELICOPTER SUFFERS HARD LANDING

The TH-500B was flying a training mission when it made a heavy landing, both pilots are safe.

November 14, 2017 - Today, in the afternoon, an Italian Air Force TH-500B helicopter landed heavily in a field in Ripi, 100 kms far from Rome, during a planned training mission. The helicopter had taken off from the "Girolamo Moscardini" military airport in Frosinone, home of the 72° Stormo.

The two pilots, both Air Force Officers, had no consequences and they were transported to the hospital for the planned medical check-ups; no third parties were involved. The Rescuers immediately arrived at the site of the accident, they found the helicopter damaged and rolled over to one side.

The Air Force has appointed an internal commission to examine the causes of the accident in order to understand how to avoid such mishaps in the future.

The TH-500B helicopter is a lightweight training aircraft characterized by high flexibility and versatility, the 72° Stormo operates this aircraft for the basic training of helicopter pilots belonging to Armed Forces and State Corps.
