ROMANIAN MIG-21 LANCER CRASHES

The fighter jet was coming back from a mission and accused an engine failure during the landing.

June 12, 2017 - A Romanian MiG-21 Lancer crashed today at 11.15 am, in the village of Nazarcea, near the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Force Base.

Lieutenant Commander Adrian Stancu was ejected from the aircraft during the landing maneuver.

The pilot is conscious and is in stable condition. He received first aid on the spot and then was transported by air to Constanta County Emergency Hospital.

The fighter jet belonging to the 86th Air Base located in Fetesti, headed by the Lieutenant Aviator Gheorghe Mociornita, took off around 10.00 am on Mikhail Kogalniceanu Air Force Base to take part in a training mission during the exercise "Thracian Eagle 2017", which is being held jointly with Bulgarian Air Force.

After completing the mission, the pilot reported a motor failure and a deterioration of the operating parameters during during the approach to Mihail Kogalniceanu AFB.

According to the procedures, the pilot has ejected from the aircraft before the crash outside the inhabited areas.

According lo low procedures, the accident is under investigation by the military prosecutor and the circumstances of the crash will be investigated by a commission appointed by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
