The organizers of the Jesolo Air Show have announced a truly rare spectacle for their 2025 event: Italian Navy fighter aircraft will take center stage in a breathtaking display. An AV-8B Harrier II Plus and an F-35B are scheduled to perform a flying display over the coastline of Jesolo, a popular seaside town near Venice in northern Italy, on June 27 and 28. This marks a historic moment for Jesolo, as it will be the first-ever display of Italian Navy aircraft at the event.

The performance of Italian Navy aircraft is rare at air shows, and their participation makes this year's edition particularly special. The aircraft will take off from the Italian Air Force Air Base in Istrana, Treviso, where they will be deployed for the occasion. Istrana Air Base is home to an ITAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighter squadron tasked with air defense.

The organizers are very excited about this rare participation. In their Facebook post, they shared their delight: "For the first time at the Jesolo Air Show the participation of the Navy. An unprecedented presence, which promises to give great emotions. The Gruppo Aerei Imbarcati (GRUPAER "WOLVES") will perform in the skies of Jesolo, exciting the public with a display of the AV-8B Harrier II Plus and F-35B aircraft. An exhibition not to be missed, which will leave you breathless and will give you the opportunity to admire these beautiful aircraft of the Navy."

This participation will allow the Italian Navy to make known to a wide audience its capabilities of aerial projection from the sea. Both aircraft usually operate from the aircraft carriers of the Naval Squadron, ensuring operational readiness and flexibility of use in national and international scenarios.

The AV-8B Harrier II Plus, known for its short take-off and vertical landing capability, has represented the cutting edge of Italian embarked air-tactical capabilities for years. The advanced F-35B, the STOVL (Short Take Off and Vertical Landing) variant of the fifth-generation multirole fighter, symbol of the technological renewal of the Italian Navy's fighter fleet, will fly alongside it.

The display of the two aircraft will include various aerobatic maneuvers such as opening, turns, roll under, aileron roll, half Cuban, to then reach the apex with the bowing to the crowd of the Harrier while the F-35 whizzes behind. The "bow to the crowd" maneuver, or lowering the nose forward while the aircraft is hovering, makes the Harrier's display unique as it is the only aircraft capable of performing it. The bow to the crowd is the Harrier's most famous maneuver and is also performed in military ceremonies to greet authorities.

The Jesolo Air Show is very well known in Italy. Every year it attracts thousands of spectators thanks to a rich flight program that over the years has seen the participation of top-notch performers such as the USAF Thunderbirds, Royal Jordanian Falcons, Al Foursan and many others. It is excellently organized by the Club Frecce Tricolori of Jesolo with the collaboration of the Municipality of Jesolo.
