Saab unveils Polish 340 AEW
First Saab 340 AEW for Polish Air Force.

Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab rolled out the first 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) system for the Polish Air Force on Friday. The aircraft was presented during a ceremony held in Sweden. The Polish 340 AEW was unveiled just two months after the order from Warsaw, it will provide Poland's armed forces with a national asset to strengthen territorial integrity and national security.

The aircraft wears an all-light gray livery and has the square red-white checkered emblem of the Polish Air Force on the tail rudder above the serial number 3401.

Saab announced at the end of July 2023 that it had received an order from the Polish Ministry of National Defense for two Saab 340 AEW aircraft. The company said the contract is worth around SEK600 million ($57.8 million) over the period 2023-2025. The aircraft will be equipped with Saab's advanced Erieye radar. The two 340 AEWs come from the Swedish Air Force inventory and will be used by Poland for a limited period while waiting to elect a more modern platform for the role. Possible candidates include the Saab GlobalEye and the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye.
