AERO Vodochody Aerospace recently announced via Twitter that it has completed production of the first L-39NG trainer aircraft. The aircraft, which wears a two-tone green camouflage livery, will soon be delivered to the Vietnamese Air Force which has ordered a dozen of them in 2021.
Once delivered to Vietnam, the L-39NG jets will complement the twelve Yak-130 light combat and advanced training aircraft that the nation purchased between 2019 and 2020.
Vietnam could become a major user of the L-39NG since it is currently in talks with the Czech Republic for the purchase of a second tranche of an additional twelve L-39NG aircraft.
The L-39NG aircraft is the successor of the well-known L-39C Albatros trainer jet which has enjoyed excellent market success and has trained thousands of pilots. Compared to its predecessor, the L-39NG boasts completely updated avionics, a new cockpit and is equipped with a new US-made FJ44-4M engine from Williams International.
