The French Air and Space Force launched the first Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI) course for Rafale pilots on May 30, 2022. This course aims to create a team of tactical experts within combat units.
This special training will involve five crew members (three pilots and one navigator of the Air Force and one pilot of the Navy). They will undergo six intensive weeks of theory lessons, simulator sessions and real flights. The activities are aimed at improving their knowledge and mastery of the Rafale and deepening the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP) of "top of the spectrum" engagements.
The five participants will be evaluated during the training. Those who successfully finish the course will earn the QWI qualification by gaining the credibility and legitimacy needed to pass on what they have learned to their unit.
The course will be provided by instructors from the École de l'Air (Air Force Academy) and the Center d'Expertise Aérienne Militaire - CEAM (Air Warfare Center).
