A delegation from the Federal Office for Defense Procurement of Switzerland (Armasuisse) led by National Armaments Director Martin Susionegger and also including Peter Winter, Director of Aeronautical Systems and the Air2030 Program, met with representatives of Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 24, 2022.
They spoke about the current status of the F-35 programme as well as the planned offset activities of Lockheed Martin in Switzerland. Among other topics, they also considered assembling F-35A jets for the Swiss Air Force at the Final Assembly and Check Out (FACO) facility in Cameri, Italy. The Swiss delegation also toured the Lockheed Martin F-35 production plant in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Swiss procurement for the new fighter entered the next phase when the Swiss Federal Council selected the Lockheed Martin F-35A on 30 June 2021. Since then, Switzerland has intensified talks with the US manufacturer and prepared the Armed Forces Dispatch 2022, with its main focus on the procurement of the new fighter aircraft and the renewal of the extended range ground-based air defence system (Bodluv GR).
