Kuwait began celebrations on Friday for National Day 2022, which is the main national holiday that takes place annually on February 25 and 26 to commemorate the nation's liberation from seven months of Iraqi occupation in 1991.
The program of the celebrations included several activities, with a parade of military aircraft and vehicles at the top. As every year, citizens were able to admire Al-Quwwat al-Jawwiyya al-Kuwaytiyya (Kuwait Air Force - KAF) combat aircraft flying over the Kuwait Towers and the Gulf streets.
The military usually train for months for this airshow, which is also attended by senior Kuwaiti military and civilian authorities. This year's parade was also an opportunity to show the public the new KAF Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role combat aircraft for the first time, which the nation received in December last year.
As shown by the videos, a pair of two-seat Typhoons performed several flypasts over the city. During a first flyby they joined three legacy Hornets, while later they flew behind a KC-130J transport and tanker aircraft. Kuwaiti Typhoon pilots also performed solo demos to highlight the platform's power and climbing ability.
Kuwait's Typhoons are the most advanced ever. They include a Captor-E electronically scanned radar and several novelties in the weapon system. Al-Kuwait ordered 28 Typhoon Tranche 3As in 2016 (22 single-seaters and 6 two-seaters), making KAF's fighter fleet among the most advanced in the world.
