The five-year Air Show in Rivolto, in northern Italy, is preparing to return next weekend, showing the crowd the best of "Made in Italy" defense technology. In addition to celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Italian Air Force "Frecce Tricolori" demonstration team, it will be an outstanding showcase of Italian aviation design and engineering.

Looking at the list of performers, most of them are platforms manufactured by the aerospace company Leonardo.

The program includes the most advanced jet trainer in the world, the Aermacchi M346. This twin-engined marvel of technology boasts exceptional flying characteristics in addition to a host of complex avionics in its glass cockpit, allowing it to simulate a host of the newest combat aircraft to prepare trainee-pilots for their careers in frontline units. The M346 is a popular training aircraft in a number of countries including Italy, Greece, Poland and Israel, thanks to its amazing capabilities and advanced training aids. It can also be equipped with a modern radar and armed with a variety of munitions and used for ground-attack.

One of the types successful graduates of the M346 may get to fly is the Eurofighter Typhoon. It is the result of a successful international programme between Italy, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom to develop a state-of-the-art multirole combat aircraft able to face any challenge in the air and on the ground using the most modern avionics to link to the digital combat environment. With its powerful EJ200 turbofans and sophisticated fly-by-wire system, the aircraft is capable of putting on an impressive show of force during its solo display, which sees the aircraft exploit an incredible range of its performance envelope at both high and low speeds.

In addition to jets, the event will feature the most amazing display of a transport aircraft anywhere in the world. It looks like a 30-ton fighter! The Italian-designed and built Leonardo C-27J Spartan is a successful tactical transport aircraft, which shares many of its components and avionics with the latest C-130 variants. Its 2 powerful turboprops also enable to stun the audience with some unforgettable aerobatic manoeuvers unheard of for an aircraft of this size. It is also an excellent demonstration of what made the Spartan such a popular transport aircraft on the export market with 15 countries on 6 continents, including the United States.

The event will also include flying displays of the most advanced helicopters in the world, also produced by Leonardo, such as the HH-139A and HH-101A.
