Piaggio Aerospace to support Italian Chinooks under 50 million euro contract.

On 19 December 2019 Piaggio Aerospace signed an agreement worth € 50 million with the Italian Ministry of Defense to provide technical-logistical support for the 55-L-714A engine. The 55-L-714A was designed by the US company Honeywell and equips the CH-47F Chinook helicopters of the Italian Army.

The nine-year contract aims to ensure efficiency and operation of the fleet through the supply by Piaggio Aerospace of spare parts and engines, MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul) activities, as well as the necessary technical-logistic support at the air bases of the Italian Army.

"The contract signed today allows us to further strengthen our Motors business unit," said Piaggio Aerospace's Extraordinary Commissioner, Vincenzo Nicastro. “When the further contracts relating to the P.180 aircraft are signed - the signature is expected shortly - the company will return to almost full operation. The latter will be a gradual process, but we expect to return to the standard regime in a few months, reabsorbing the workforce currently on layoffs."

With this latest contract, the overall value of the Piaggio Aerospace order backlog rises to over € 300 million, to which will be added shortly further agreements - close to signature - worth over € 500 million.
