On April 25, 2019, USAF Secretary Heather Wilson said the United States will send a team to Poland to introduce the modern F-35 stealth fighter to the nation. According to Wilson, the team will arrive in Poland in May and will be ready to answer any questions about the plane.
This sales strategy follows the interest shown by Poland for the fifth generation aircraft under the Harpia military modernization program.
Wilson praised Poland for its serious defense attitude and said it was one of the countries that met NATO's 2% GDP requirement for defense spending. She also said that Poland is an important ally of the United States, especially towards growing threats from Russia and China.
Wilson also recalled that Poland was among the three countries that joined the United States in its operation in Afghanistan after the World Trade Center attacks along with Britain and Australia, and assured that the United States did not forget these alliances.
Regarding the presence of US forces in Poland, Wilson said that over 4,000 US soldiers have been moved interim to Poland and it is very important to intensify relations between Poland and the United States.
Last November, the Polish defense minister Mariusz BÅ‚aszczak asked to speed up the evaluation for the purchase of F-35 following several accidents involving the Soviet-era MiG-29 combat aircraft.
