Leonardo showcases International Flight Training School at IDEX 2019.

Leonardo is currently participating in the IDEX and NAVDEX - two exhibitions that are among the most important defense and security events in the Gulf region - scheduled until February 21 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center in the United Arab Emirates, to show its best security technologies on land, at sea and in the air.

During the events, the Italian aerospace company is also presenting the International Flight Training School (IFTS) in the region for the first time. The IFTS was constituted by Leonardo together with the Italian Air Force (ITAF) to strengthen the Phase IV of the military training course, it is the last step the student has to face before moving on modern fighter jets. The IFTS can train 80 pilots per year through the use of 22 M-346 Advanced Jet Trainers and the work of 45 skilled ITAF instructors. It is based at the 61st Wing of Lecce-Galatina, South Italy, but can be extended to a second air base in case of high demand.

The flight school of the Italian Air Force is already frequented by several foreign students including those of the United Arab Emirates Air Force. In November 2018, it delivered the flight patents to 15 students from 3 different countries. Leonardo's advanced training jet along with the highly technological simulator are able to optimally prepare students for aircraft such as Eurofighter, F-35, F-15 and F-18.
