RAF Lakenheath announces a special flypast.

On 22 January 2019, Col. Will Marshall announced on the twitter page of the 48th FW that on 22 February 2019 there will be a special flyover consisting of aircraft from Lakenheath AB and Mildenhall AB to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the USAF B-17 crash in Sheffield.

On 22 February 1944, a B-17 Flying Fortress (serial number 43-31322) nicknamed "Mi Amigo" crashed in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield, killing all 10 crew on board.

After being badly damaged by enemy fire over the target the aircraft limped back to the UK, but ended up over 80 miles off course of their base in Northampstonshire, circling low over the city of Sheffield.

Children playing football in Endcliffe Park watched as the aircraft's engine cut out and it crashed over a nearby playing field.

The Sheffield's RAF Association has erected a memorial stone to the accident at Endcliffe Park and most likely it will be the best place to assist the fly-by of aircraft.
