United Arab Emirates Armed Force have announced the signing of a contract with Adası (Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments) for the acquisition of eight P.1HH HammerHead, an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with avant-garde designed manufactured by Piaggio Aerospace.
All are equipped with EO / IR cameras (Electro-Optical Infra-Red), radar and advanced communication systems. The contract also includes the integrated logistic support, including training.
The P.1HH is an unmanned aircraft developed from Piaggio P180 to carry out patrol missions, ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance), and to respond to the various threats ranging from terrorist attacks with illegal immigration, protection of exclusive economic zones and critical sites.
The equipment mounted on the device make it suitable for the surveillance of borders and wide spaces, but also for the identification of specific targets, for monitoring disaster areas as disaster and environmental monitoring.
In 2015 the Italian Air Force has formalized the purchase of 3 P.1HH systems, with the option for another 3 units, with delivery scheduled for 2016. With this acquisition the Italian Air Force will become the launch customer for UAV.
