September 24, 2017  - Today an Italian Eurofighter combat aircraft crashed into the sea during the Terracina Air Show, 100 kms far from Rome. The event was interrupted and then canceled. According to the published videos, the Demo Pilot Captain Orlandi from the Reparto Sperimentale Volo was completing his performance when during the closing of a vertical loop impacted the sea. The accident occurred in a few moments and the pilot did not eject. He was killed.

The cause of the crash is still unknown. The Italian Air Force has started the accident investigation.

The Italian Eurofighter performed in eight airshows this year and it was the last public appearance for the aerobatic season 2017.

Another fatal accident involved an Eurofighter only a few days ago. A Royal Saudi Air Force Typhoon crashed during a war mission in Yemen on Sept. 13. The pilot was killed (More details here).

We want to remember Cap. Orlandi with his latest successful performance at the NATO Days in Ostrava, Sept. 15, 2017.
